According to the ex-girlfriend of Roberto Alomar, he has AIDS

This has been a rough couple of days for Major League Baseball and it really isn’t getting any better. Sadly, I’m sure A-Roid is gladdened to hear that Ilya Dall, the ex-girlfriend of Roberto Alomar, is suing him for $15 million for having sex with her while knowing that he might have AIDS because it takes the spotlight off of him for a little bit.
From the NY Daily News:
“His lawyer, Charles Bach, would not say whether Alomar is HIV-positive. “We believe this is a totally frivolous lawsuit. These allegations are baseless,” Bach said. “He’s healthy and would like to keep his health status private. We’ll do our talking in court.”
Alomar’s father, Mets bench coach Sandy Alomar, said the claims were news to him. “That’s the first time we ever heard of that,” he said from Puerto Rico.”
According to Ilya Dall, Alomar saw his health steadily decline until 02/2006. She also claims his “turned purple” and he foamed at the mouth and a spinal tap revealed that he had AIDS. That was also four years after they started seeing each other.
From the New York Post:
Her suit does not claim that he knew he had AIDS when they were having unprotected sex – but he had reason to think he might because his doctors kept advising him to be tested. He procrastinated and told her he was disease free, the suit says. In 2004, she said, she noticed he had cold sores. The following year he was diagnosed with a blood disorder that’s linked to AIDS, the suit says.
Dall also states in the lawsuit, first obtained by the Daily News, that In April 2005, Alomar told her that he had been raped by two Mexican men when he was 17.
Dall said that Alomar was suffering from erectile dysfunction and confided “he was raped by two Mexican men after playing a ballgame in New Mexico or a Southwestern state when he was 17,” the suit says. It goes on to say that around the same time Alomar developed a persistent cough and was bedridden with extreme fatigue.
He developed thrush, a yeast infection, and was told by a doctor to take an HIV test – but refused, Dall claims. “I don’t have HIV,” he told her repeatedly, the suit charges.
The Smoking Gun has a copy of the full complaint and here is an excerpt:
“16. Dr. Joseph Mace advised Defendant, Roberto Alomar, to have an HIV test performed and the Defendant, Roberto Alomar, refused to have said test performed, stating that he was tested by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and was clear of HIV.
17. In March, 2005, Dr. Joseph Mace prescribed steroids for the Defendant in order to rebuild his blood platelets, and on or about March 17, 2005, after suffering back and vision problems, and fatigue, the Defendant retired from his employment as an active professional baseball player.
66. That the Plaintiff is under the care of a doctor and other medical personnel in an attempt to recover from the serious, severe and permanent emotional, psychological and mental injuries as a result of the negligent infliction of emotional distress by causing Plaintiff to be exposed to HIV and developing AIDS, which is also commonly known as “AIDS Phobia.”
This story is to surreal to make fun of. I can’t really laugh at this. Especially if story about him being raped when he was 17 is true.
However I will make fun of the fact that Ilya Dall was “an impressive female arm wrestler” at one time, way back in 1998. If only there was a movie about arm wrestling I could reference…
“Luckily, several of the guys there have previously cracked their bones in competition – one is even in a cast. Craig Saputo, an amateur champ at 150 pounds, sees patiently to my arm, while lefty pro Selearis sits me on a garbage can and the impressive female arm wrestler, Ilya Dall, arrives with a cell phone to dial an ambulance and my wife.”
