College Football Week 10 is in the books & here’s what I learned

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on November 2, 2008

Thank God there’s more chaos in the polls this week and here is a newsflash: Tennessee sucks really sucks. I’ll have a complete write up on their game tomorrow after I review the tape today.

Rich “Dirty Sanchez” Rodriguez will be home this holiday season because for the first time in 33 years the Michigan Wolverines will not be bowling. The last time that happened it was 1975.

Look for West Virginia to be ranked later today.

Central Michigan gets an upset victory over Indiana. Don’t worry Hoosier fans you have basketball season to look forward to. Oh wait no you don’t.

I feel your pain fan Wisconsin fans.

Minnesota gets upset by that smart Big 11 10 team known as Northwestern.

Miami is a dangerous team to play just ask Virginia.

Houston Nutt continues to impress as Ole Miss defeated Auburn.

Kansas opened a can of whip ass on K-State.

Arkansas gets an upset victory over Tulsa.

Way to go Pitt, you’re still relevant.

Miss State you’re not relevant.

Cal gets the upset win verses Oregon.

Georgia Tech continues to win.

Florida took revenge for the last year’s loss again Georgia & set themselves up to make a run.

It was the last game of Texas’s gauntlet but Texas Tech spoiled the party and remains undefeated. Now will Oklahoma be ranked above Texas Tech? That really wouldn’t be fair would it since they just defeated the team that handed Oklahoma their only loss of the season. This is why we need a playoff structure.

Duke was so close but yet so far away yesterday.

North Texas…what a week…12 players fail drug tests and yet they still managed a victory yesterday.

Oh my God Syracuse actually won a game yesterday.

Don’t look now but Oregon State is almost bowl eligible.

Utah continues it’s reign as a BCS buster.

Clemson wins a HUGE win against Boston College.

College Football Week 9 is in the books & here’s what I learned

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on October 26, 2008

It sucks to be a Tennessee fan this season however I’ll still support them no matter what. As always a complete write up on the Tennessee/Alabama game will be tomorrow after I torture myself by watching a replay of the game.

There were other teams in action yesterday. Let’s look and see what we have learned from yesterday.

UCONN got back on the Big Least track by hammering Cincinnati.

Indiana upset the smarties of Northwestern.

Apparently Boston College doesn’t want too go to the ACC championship game.

Wisconsin finally won a game by beating the fighting Zookers of Illinois.

Here’s a piece of advice: never schedule Texas Tech as a homecoming game. Just ask the Kansas Jayhawks.

The fall of Wake Forest and the rise of Miami as begun.

Minnesota is 7-1 and for real.

The gaytors of Florida hammered Kentucky by blowing them out by 58 points. Hey did they steal your plays as well?

Oklahoma scored 55 points in the 1st half against Kansas State but only 3 in the 2nd half. Oklahoma still handily won the game.

Vandy is still not bowl eligible and Couch Cut picks up another win for Duke.

Florida State beat Virginia Tech, that and the fact Virginia beat Georgia Tech means Virginia of all ACC teams is on top of the Coastal division in the ACC.

Look out folks Louisville might be back, they upset South Florida yesterday.

The beast known as Georgia reared its head yesterday by hanging 52 points at LSU. As you can see from the photo LSU fans is thrilled at all. (Click on it)

Trends started at Rutgers…

1. College football (1866)
2. Giving the finger to hovering HD cameras at college football games (2008)

For the first time in 10 years Michigan State beat Michigan at Michigan. I’m sure things are getting hot for Rich “Dirty Sanchez” Rodriguez.

Texas barely wins against Oklahoma State. Folks this Oklahoma State is for real just America’s coach, Mike Gundy.

Pittsburgh was doing well but they regressed yesterday while Rutgers beat them.

Missouri took some frustration out on Colorado yesterday.

Texas A&M beat Iowa State. Check this video out. You have to love fans whose team is not performing well talking shit about the other teams. This video is hilarious!!!

JoePa gets his first win at the horseshoe since 1978 as Penn State beats Ohio State officially knocking them from playing in this year’s title game.

Washington is still winless and Notre Dame is 5-2.  They could become ranked this week.

Houston Nutt took Ole Miss in to Arkansas handed them another loss. I’m he is savoring that one.

College Football Week 2 is in the books & here’s what I learned

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on September 7, 2008

First off everyone stop for a moment and point and laugh at the Big Least. The years of fooling the college football world with smoke and mirrors and weak scheduling are over.

WVU falls to East Carolina and it was never even close. Somewhere Rich Rodriguez is laughing because he never lost to East Carolina.

How hot is the name “Skip Holtz” right now? I’ve been to various teams message boards since yesterday and a lot teams whose coaches are in the hot seat want him. For example:…………………………………………………………………………………………………..

………………………………………………………………………..

  • South Carolina
  • Clemson
  • Tennessee
  • Syracuse
  • Arkansas
  • Louisville
  • Washington
  • Pittsburgh
  • Notre Dame

Speaking of Syracuse how is it pathetic to lose to Akron. Other Big Least fail boats are Uconn & Pittsburgh. Sure Uconn won yesterday but it took an overtime to beat Temple. Are you kidding me? And Pitt struggled with Buffalo.

The best team in the Big Least is Cincinnati. Sure they lost yesterday but it’s difficult to go to Oklahoma and win.

Oh yeah you can continue pointing and laughing at the ACC. Way to go Maryland.

Ohio State should drop in the polls due to their dismal performance against Ohio.

Miami will be scary good by the middle of this season. And what a rank amateur move it was on Urban Meyer’s part to kick that last field goal. He could have let Miami have the ball on the 10 yard line. That was disgraceful.

Something else that is disgraceful is the PAC 10 refs. What an idiotic call yesterday involving Washington and BYU.

Arkansas better step it up or they will not win a conference game all year.

Notre Dame Football still sucks. If San Diego St. didn’t make some stupid mistakes they would have won that game.

Under the raider teams

  • Nebraska
  • Mississippi (I always knew Coach 0 could recruit now they have a coach.)
  • Clemson they will bounce back
  • Air Force
  • F$U
  • Cal
  • Georgia Tech
  • Iowa
  • Purdue
  • Oklahoma State
  • Vandy
  • TCU
  • Kansas St.
  • Arizona
  • Indiana

Teams that impressed

  • East Carolina
  • Wisconsin
  • Georgia
  • Oregon
  • Kentucky
  • Cal
  • Miami in a loss that game was closer than what the score dictates
  • Texas
  • Oklahoma
  • Missouri
  • TCU

Teams that failed to impress

  • Ohio State
  • Michigan
  • Illinois
  • Auburn
  • Texas A&M
  • Arkansas
  • Alabama
  • Kansas
  • South Florida
  • Utah
  • Texas Tech.
  • Texas

Schools that might be looking a new coach next year

  • Arkansas
  • Syracuse (that guy is a goner)
  • Pitt (him to)
  • Texas A&M
  • Tennessee (I had to)
  • Michigan
  • Washington
  • Colorado
  • Notre Dame
  • Virginia
  • Maryland
  • Memphis
  • Louisville

Even the water girls of Ole Miss are hotties much like their cheerleaders.

The Miami cheerleaders are hot in a soft-core porn sort of way

Georgia’s cheerleaders are so-so

Day One is Done Here are the Winners & Losers.

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on March 20, 2008

Xavier avoids being the fifth team in row to be upset by the Dawgs of Georgia. Rallying from being down 11 points the Musketeers win by 12. Georgia simply didn’t have the depth they needed. Look for this Xavier to go far into the tourney.Kansas thumps Portland State by 24. Gee…who didn’t see that coming?

Temple returns to the tourney only to disappoint Bill Cosby and the Jello Pudding Pop nation by losing to the Michael Moores Spartans of Michigan State.

UNLV wallops Kent State. Funny all I’ve heard for the past week was how Kent State was a mid major sleeper team.

Pitt continues its winning ways by whipping Oral Roberts by 19. Look for Pitt to go a little further in the tourney.

Purdue defeats Murder Inc. I mean Baylor and quite handily at that.

The Irish of Notre Dame defeated George Mason by 18. I doubt their football team could beat George Mason though.

Wisconsin shows why they belong by beating an up tempo Cal State Fullerton team is ease.

West Virginia defeated an Arizona team that by most accounts shouldn’t have been there.

UCLA who I’m picking to win it all embarrassed Mississippi Valley State. Like MVS had a prayer without Jerry Rice there.

Stanford beat up on the smartie pants of Cornell.

K-State defeats USC which shouldn’t surprise anyone. I’m still shocked that USC received such a high seed. Look for Beasley and company to advance next round as well.

Belmont must have Joel’s post about them because Duke was almost exited early by a nobody for the second straight year.

Washington State flexed some muscle and grounded the Eagles of Winthrop by 31.

Texas A&M defeated BYU in perhaps the least interesting game of the year. Zzzzzzzz

And lastly Kentucky’s failboat the USS One and Done has set sail thanks to Marquette. Boy I’m willing to bet some SEC coaches are regretting voting Billy G. for co-coach of the year. I’m sure Ashley Judd will give him a tongue lashing, hopefully he’ll be sober enough to remember it. Then again why was KY even in the tournament to begin with?

I wonder if Billy G. is going down with the ship?

The Revelations After a Saturdays Worth of Football Week 11

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on November 11, 2007

#1 tOSU falls, more chaos for the BCS. This is the best college football season ever!

I’ve already said my piece about Ohio State, but Ron Zook might the Big Eveleen Ten coach of the year.

If Kansas wins out they will play for the national championship. The game against Missouri looms larger than the Kansas coach.

Boston College proves why they were over ranked.

Mark Richt is pumping up the crowd on the sidelines, getting the black jerseys for his players…he’s finally coming out of his shell. No team wants to play Georgia right now. Ask Auburn.

Virginia Tech might be better than what some of us thought.

Welcome back to realty Michigan, however you still have a chance of beating tOSU next week.

Ha Ha Ha Uconn got beat, another Big Least team has their BCS dreams crushed.

South Carolina went from ranked 6 in the country to a joke during their four game losing streak.

It doesn’t matter how many point Nebraska scored against K-State, Callahan is a goner.

NC State is slowly and quietly becoming bowl eligible.

Notice how the Gamecock fans were gone by the middle of the 4th quarter? Yep the old USC is back. 🙂

The old Cal team is back is well.

For the last game played in the Orange Bowl, one would think Miami would at least put up a fight.

The offense of Clemson is playing as well anyone in the nation.

Kentucky denies Vandy a chance to be bowl eligible. By the way I got a lot of grief from Kentucky fans over this post. So even though the embarrassing lose to Gardner-Webb isn’t football related, all I can say is: Ha ha ha your team really sucks. 🙂

Service Academies 2 Notre Dame 0.

And finally Joel is writing an in-depth piece on Coach Croom. But all I have to say is this:

Others have been fired because of this.

So I profess on this day 11/11/07.

Things are Getting Ugly in Nebraska & are Bound to Get Worse

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on November 8, 2007

By now I’m sure everyone has heard about Callahan’s comments about how he would not resign before the season ends, even if he were offered a buyout worth more than he is entitled to by his contract. I’m not sure if I would classify it as arrogance or sheer stupidity.

“That term ‘resignation’ is not in our vocabulary,” Callahan said.

OK, are the words “first five-game losing streak since 1958 & being outscored 226-98 in those five games” in your vocabulary? Or are the terms “you’re an embarrassment to the once great Nebraska program and you have one of the nation’s worst defenses, allowing 35.9 points and 477.6 yards a game,” there as well?

This Saturday Nebraska plays Kansas State. I’m predicting that this game will be so unbearable to watch that judges are sentencing criminals to watch it as a form of punishment.

Callahan signed a new contract in September that is worth over three million dollars, since then the AD has been canned & officials have brought in Tom Osborne as acting AD. Translation: He is currently looking for a new coach as I type this.

“You need to understand this isn’t about money. I didn’t get into coaching for money, for buyouts or anything like that,” Callahan said.

This disappointing season hasn’t changed his feelings for Nebraska, he said. Callahan has often said he wants to finish his career at Nebraska.

“I sincerely want to be here,” he said. “I think I indicated that when I signed a contract extension. If I didn’t want to be here, I wouldn’t have signed the extension.”

Dude you signed for money just admit it, there’s no shame in that. What is a shame is the fact you recruited and signed 29 JUCO players and the majority of those haven’t panned out. You lost 7 starters on defense with no one to fill in the gaps. No one is saying you can’t stay in Nebraska, you just can’t continue to fuck up coach their program.

Jesus won’t help until Callahan is gone

“Gosh, I don’t think we wanted to do this,” he said. “These coaches didn’t purposely tell these kids, ‘Hey, don’t go out there and tackle today’ or ‘Don’t go out there and rush the passer.’

“Our guys coach to the best of their ability, and they did the best they could. It hasn’t been good enough at this point. Hopefully, Saturday we can rectify this,” he said.

No shit it hasn’t been good enough to this point, nor would it have been good enough at majority of the D-1 schools that have some semblance of football history.

“It’s a game,” he said. “I understand here in Nebraska it’s more than a game. It’s life. It’s the most important thing to Nebraskans, and I share that passion.”

Callahan said he won’t leave on his own accord, even if it means relieving pressure on himself, his staff and their families.

“There is a message if you do resign, that you’ve quit on your football team,” he said. “There is no quit in this staff. We’re going to keep plugging away and keep pushing and keep coaching and try to get through this.”

First of all if you truly did have that passion for Nebraska then you would willfully step down instead of planning on getting fired, which is exactly what you’re doing. Sometimes it’s better to admit that you’re not in the right situation and admit failure than be so self-centered to the point that you’re willing to place unneeded pressures upon your own family.

Callahan claims much of his fan correspondence has been supportive, which I’m not buying for a second. I have a feeling that if there are some supportive e-mails, faxes or letters they were written by Colorado, Oklahoma and Kansas fans. I’m not sure if I would count those if I were him.

So I profess on this day 11/08/07.

YMSWWC’s Men’s College Basketball Preview-Top 25

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on October 25, 2007

This list was compiled and written by Joel. Who soon will have his own posting powers for this blog. So I’m removing the “guest blogger” status.

*Disclaimer: Even though I am from Memphis and am a Tennessee fan, I will attempt to be as unbiased as possible. Every team has a question, and none of this will matter until March comes around anyway…

1. North Carolina- Ty Lawson running the point with Tyler Hansbrough in the middle and Will Graves either starting or coming off the bench should have Carolina rolling. I am a little concerned about their defense and I do wonder if they can ever recover from last year’s Elite 8 loss against Georgetown, but I think Coach Williams will lead them just fine. Should make it to the Final Four, especially if they can find a consistent outside shooter.

2. UCLA- Defense wins championships, and the Bruins play it. It’s ugly, plodding, physical, tough, but very effective. Kinda reminds me of the Baltimore Ravens, without the “assassin” in the middle and the arrogant head coach. The Bruins now have low post scoring with Kevin Love, but he’s a freshman. Sometimes that’s good, sometimes that’s bad. I would have them #1 if they had more low post depth.

3. Memphis- Some pre-season rankings have the Tigers #1, and in many years they probably would, but there are 2 reasons I don’t: scoring and coaching (the last one almost got me banned in barbershops back home). The Tigers, for all of their talent, could play more of a fast breaking style than they do, but they don’t. Why??? Point #2, coaching. Calipari can sometimes be his own worst enemy. I like that he emphasizes defense, but let the players run. You have the horses. Plus, I can think of at least 10 coaches who are better at in game coaching, 2 of whom are Howland and Williams (see above). Great recruiter though (see Derrick Rose). Also, if the city of Memphis can keep Operation “Keep the Tigers Out Of the Clubs” going, it will be a total team effort.

4. Kansas- If it wasn’t for Brandon Rush tearing his ACL, they would be lower. They still might slide if he cannot fully recover, but wit returning starters and Mario Chalmers off the bench (or starting), I still like their chances. Can anyone explain Rock Chalk Jayhawk to me???

5. Georgetown- I think the loss of Jeff Green hurts more than they let on, even if the Hoyas are using the Princceton offense. With Roy Hibbert opting to stay for another year, they should be fine. Plus I do like Vernon Macklin to be the new Jeff Green, if there is such a thing. Also, Georgetown must go into the year as the hunted, so let’s see how John Thompson III coaches this team.

6. Louisville- For the most part, this is a young Louisville team. Next year, they should be at the top. For now, #6. Why this high this year??? A solid front court, a young guard combo, and Rick Pitino’s pressing style of play are the reasons. I am a little worried about games that may turn into a shootout. Will they have the horses to keep up??? Where’s my mint julep???

7. Michigan State- This ranking may be a little high too, but I love Drew Neitzel’s game. He’s a shooter and should easily score 20 a night. Tom Izzo is a top coach and incoming freshman Chris Allen should be a stud. Someone else besides Neitzel needs to score. Who will step up??? One of the best student sections too, btw…

8. Tennessee- This is year 1 A.D. (After Dane), so who’s gonna take on the leadership role??? Oh yeah, Chris Lofton is there…never mind. Tyler Smith should contribute immediately, but someone tell Coach Pearl to keep his shirt on. I’ll take the orange blazer before his man boobs. His chest isn’t Rocky Top, it’s Rocky Flop.

9. Indiana- Though I have never been a Kelvin Sampson fan, he has talent and he can coach. D.J. White and freshman Eric Gordon are gonna be a force in the Big 10. Someone take the cell phone away from Sampson, or at least leave the recruiting to his assistants.

10. Gonzaga- This is conditional on Josh Heytvelt keeping the happy mushrooms out of his pocket and on top of his pizza or favorite pasta dish. There needs to be a German Shepherd at his door and a urine cup in his pocket at all times so he can stay away from trouble. Someone tell him this is college basketball and not “Playmakers”.

11-25 (in no particular order)

Washington State, Texas A&M, Marquette, Duke, Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Kansas State, Arizona, N.C. State, Pitt, Kentucky, Xavier, Arkansas, Miami (OH).

Up & Coming Team: Missouri. Mike Anderson and his up tempo style (a disciple of Nolan Richardson and his 40 Minutes of Hell) should make them at the very least an 8th seeded team in the dance. 4 returning starters in year 2 makes for a dangerous combination.

Overrated: Stanford. A season of promise has turned bad now that Brook Lopez decided to do whatever it was he was doing. Obviously, he wasn’t going to class. Now that Mike Montgomery is back as a “special assistant” to the AD (code words for next head coach), Trent Johnson should be looking over his shoulder.

Pearl’s man boobs. Go Vols!!!!

The Revelations After a Saturdays Worth of Football Week 6

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on October 7, 2007

First of all I just want to say this is the best season of college football ever!!! OK, yesterday I was forced to watch football from 3 critical locations.

  • My couch
  • The Wild Hare Sports Bar Cafe
  • My buddy Johns couch.

Some of you might remember me stating in week one that The Fighting Zookers Illini were going to good, do you believe me now? They should be ranked.

What a win for Butch Davis and North Carolina.

The Wisconsin QB is seriously underrated.

Look for Ohio State to jump Cal in the polls.

Way to go K-State. (sarcasm)

The Fighting Zookers Illini have the best running back no one has ever heard of.

I realize the YoJoe and The Gridiron Goddess are mourning this morning after Stanford beat USC at USC, but I did say if Southern Cal continues to make mistakes they would lose. I just didn’t think it would be to Stanford. By the way Gridiron Goddess is rather pissed off right now and I’m frightened.

Alabama needs to learn how to close games out.

While Tennessee’s win over Georgia looks impressive, there are still questions, I’ll go into full details later today.

I give Florida credit for playing hard and leaving it all on the field.

I told you last week that this is the time that Clemson falls apart.

Hi we’re Nebraska football and we suck.

Oh look Iowa lost again, maybe they’ll get a much needed win against Michigan State who lost to North Western (snicker)

Was Tebow crying last night?

I see the Cinderella story of Rutgers is finally dead.

Even though Texas A&M beats America’s coach, Mike “I’m 40 I’m a man!” Gundy’s team, Dennis Franchione will still be fired, I’ll go into details about that later as well.

What a great win for Oklahoma, especially since I hate Texas.

Boston College was just showing off yesterday.

Go Boston Redsox clip the Angels wings!!!

UCLA has to be the worst team in the country to get beaten by Notre Dame, thanks a lot for crushing my dreams of a winless Notre Dame team. Bastards.

The more I hear Lou Holz talk the more he reminds me of Sylvester the Cat. I’m waiting for him to say “Suffering Succotash”.

That’s all for now…look for some important articles coming up soon.

So I profess on this day 10/07/07.

The Revelations After a Saturdays Worth of Football Week 5

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on September 30, 2007

Wow upset Saturday has come and gone. So for fun I’m going rate each upset with a scale going from 1-10. One being not that big of an upset and 10 being holy shit God must hate that team upset.

  • #5 West Virginia @ #18 South Florida. Upset factor 6. It was a home game and WVU hadn’t played anyone worth a damn all season, plus South Florida just has their number.
  • #21 Penn State @ Illinois. Upset factor 7. Even though I would have picked Penn State to win this game, if you recall I did mention in Week 1 that the Fighting Zookers Illini were getting better and it will show this season.
  • #3 Oklahoma @ Colorado. Upset factor 10. In week one I stated that this Buffalo team would be a force in 4 years, but after this game it will be more like 2. Bob Stoops is probably pissed off and shocked right now, so maybe he’s thinking of going somewhere else, like say Tennessee. 🙂
  • Kansas State @ #7 Texas. Upset factor 5. If it wasn’t for the fact that this was a home game for Texas the factor would have been lower. I’ve been saying all year that Texas is highly overrated, because they have been flirting with disaster all season. This is a good K-State team, they gave Auburn all they could handle earlier this year, plus they beat Texas last year.
  • #13 Clemson @ Ga. Tech. Upset factor 4. It was home game for Tech, and Clemson always falls apart right about now. Not to mention that Chance was back in the lineup & Tech is a completely different team when he is leading them on the field.
  • Maryland @ 10 Rutgers. Upset factor 5. Only the fact that this was a road game raises the factor to 5. By all accounts one can make the claim that Maryland could have been 3-1 going into this game. Rutgers hadn’t played a team with a pulse all season. It’s funny everyone was talking about Rutgers being the team the beat in the Big Least, I guess Maryland proved them wrong.
  • #22 Alabama @ Florida State. Upset factor 1. Alabama had no business being ranked to begin with. Plus was a neutral field in Jacksonville. Which really means 80% of those attending were FSU fans.
  • Auburn @ #4 Florida. Upset factor 7. I know shocking right? As previously stated in the posting about the game, Turbeville is one of the best road coaches in the country. Turbeville is to Florida as Spurrier is to Tennessee.

Other things I noticed

If USC (the one that wins titles) keeps making mistakes like they did last night, they will not survive their PAC 10 road schedule.

With all due respect to Minnesota, Ohio State & ESPN 2, no one cares about this game!! You could have shown a better game like Georgia & Ole Miss.

Wisconsin incredibility is still the team to beat in the Big Eleven Ten.

Though they lost Michigan State will still have a great season.

Woodson for Heisman! Woodson for Heisman!

Notre Dame is 0-5. They might be able to afford to fire Charlie “the Jabba” Weis, but I’m sure the athletic director of Notre Dame, the same one that fired Willingham, is feeling the noose tighten around his neck.

Oh look Iowa lost again. That’s because they SUCK!

Dave Wannstedt should be calling a moving company right about now.

Washington has some homely looking cheerleaders.

Texas Tech worked out any sexual frustrations they might have had by scoring 75 points.

I see Mike “I’m a man I’m 40!” Gundy’s whipped lowly Sam Houston State.

There could be a QB controversy brewing at Notre Dame.

I received my first injury of this football season by dropping the remote on my foot. Don’t worry I’ll tough it out.

Right now South Florida is the number

one team in the state of Florida!!!! 😉

So I profess on this day 9/30/07.
