The field of 65 has been announced AKA what round will your team fail in?

The NCAA tournament is upon us. Check out the entire CBS bracket here!

The Top 4 seeds are (in order of who I think has the best chance to win):

  • Louisville – Midwest
  • Pittsburgh – East
  • North Carolina – South
  • Connecticut – West

You know it is a fight when the mascots get into it like as pictured above. This is the Pistol Pete/Big Blue altercation at the WAC tournament. Pete ain’t afraid to go for the throat! The Rice Owl is not impressed.

The funny thing is Pete normally has a mustache but Big Blue ripped that shit right off Pete’s face! Big Blue has been suspended. Isn’t college athletics awesome!

College Football Week 10 is in the books & here’s what I learned

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on November 2, 2008

Thank God there’s more chaos in the polls this week and here is a newsflash: Tennessee sucks really sucks. I’ll have a complete write up on their game tomorrow after I review the tape today.

Rich “Dirty Sanchez” Rodriguez will be home this holiday season because for the first time in 33 years the Michigan Wolverines will not be bowling. The last time that happened it was 1975.

Look for West Virginia to be ranked later today.

Central Michigan gets an upset victory over Indiana. Don’t worry Hoosier fans you have basketball season to look forward to. Oh wait no you don’t.

I feel your pain fan Wisconsin fans.

Minnesota gets upset by that smart Big 11 10 team known as Northwestern.

Miami is a dangerous team to play just ask Virginia.

Houston Nutt continues to impress as Ole Miss defeated Auburn.

Kansas opened a can of whip ass on K-State.

Arkansas gets an upset victory over Tulsa.

Way to go Pitt, you’re still relevant.

Miss State you’re not relevant.

Cal gets the upset win verses Oregon.

Georgia Tech continues to win.

Florida took revenge for the last year’s loss again Georgia & set themselves up to make a run.

It was the last game of Texas’s gauntlet but Texas Tech spoiled the party and remains undefeated. Now will Oklahoma be ranked above Texas Tech? That really wouldn’t be fair would it since they just defeated the team that handed Oklahoma their only loss of the season. This is why we need a playoff structure.

Duke was so close but yet so far away yesterday.

North Texas…what a week…12 players fail drug tests and yet they still managed a victory yesterday.

Oh my God Syracuse actually won a game yesterday.

Don’t look now but Oregon State is almost bowl eligible.

Utah continues it’s reign as a BCS buster.

Clemson wins a HUGE win against Boston College.

College Football Week 9 is in the books & here’s what I learned

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on October 26, 2008

It sucks to be a Tennessee fan this season however I’ll still support them no matter what. As always a complete write up on the Tennessee/Alabama game will be tomorrow after I torture myself by watching a replay of the game.

There were other teams in action yesterday. Let’s look and see what we have learned from yesterday.

UCONN got back on the Big Least track by hammering Cincinnati.

Indiana upset the smarties of Northwestern.

Apparently Boston College doesn’t want too go to the ACC championship game.

Wisconsin finally won a game by beating the fighting Zookers of Illinois.

Here’s a piece of advice: never schedule Texas Tech as a homecoming game. Just ask the Kansas Jayhawks.

The fall of Wake Forest and the rise of Miami as begun.

Minnesota is 7-1 and for real.

The gaytors of Florida hammered Kentucky by blowing them out by 58 points. Hey did they steal your plays as well?

Oklahoma scored 55 points in the 1st half against Kansas State but only 3 in the 2nd half. Oklahoma still handily won the game.

Vandy is still not bowl eligible and Couch Cut picks up another win for Duke.

Florida State beat Virginia Tech, that and the fact Virginia beat Georgia Tech means Virginia of all ACC teams is on top of the Coastal division in the ACC.

Look out folks Louisville might be back, they upset South Florida yesterday.

The beast known as Georgia reared its head yesterday by hanging 52 points at LSU. As you can see from the photo LSU fans is thrilled at all. (Click on it)

Trends started at Rutgers…

1. College football (1866)
2. Giving the finger to hovering HD cameras at college football games (2008)

For the first time in 10 years Michigan State beat Michigan at Michigan. I’m sure things are getting hot for Rich “Dirty Sanchez” Rodriguez.

Texas barely wins against Oklahoma State. Folks this Oklahoma State is for real just America’s coach, Mike Gundy.

Pittsburgh was doing well but they regressed yesterday while Rutgers beat them.

Missouri took some frustration out on Colorado yesterday.

Texas A&M beat Iowa State. Check this video out. You have to love fans whose team is not performing well talking shit about the other teams. This video is hilarious!!!

JoePa gets his first win at the horseshoe since 1978 as Penn State beats Ohio State officially knocking them from playing in this year’s title game.

Washington is still winless and Notre Dame is 5-2.  They could become ranked this week.

Houston Nutt took Ole Miss in to Arkansas handed them another loss. I’m he is savoring that one.

College Football Week 6 is in the books & here’s what I learned

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on October 5, 2008

Let’s be honest for the most part yesterday was an exciting & entertaining crappy day of college football.

As always I’ll have a full review of the Tennessee game tomorrow after I watch a tape of the game today. For the most part the death clock continues to toll for Philopotamus.

Pittsburgh is still alive in the Big Least and shot down South Florida which I was glad to see.

Duke was on a roll until they met another team from a “smart school” that was also a buzz saw name Georgia Tech.

Michigan State continues to quietly win while Iowa continues to quietly suck.

Has anyone noticed that Minnesota is 5-1?

Right now Penn State is the most underrated top 10 team in the country.

I asked this question on a message board this week it is worth asking again. Should Arkansas be considered a Div. 2-A school this season? I bet Atlanta doesn’t look so bad to Bobby P. now huh?

Kansas, remember them? Well they almost were victims of an upset yesterday.

Oklahoma didn’t have any trouble winning their first game as the #1 in the country.

Virginia Tech is suddenly the team to beat in the ACC.

Notre Dame is 4-1 and almost lost to Stanford. With their weak schedule why aren’t they in the top 5? (Sarcasm people catch the fever!)

The Fighting Zookers of Illinois reinserts themselves in to the Big 10.

Wisconsin is on the fail slide.

Texas Tech is 5-0 and it looks like their offense has awaked.

I hate F$U but they are 4-1 and their game with Miami was a classic.

UCONN is the latest Big East failure.

America’s coach Mike Gundy has Oklahoma State at 5-0. He’s a man he’s 40! By God.

Holy shit just when you think Maryland is coming back and Virginia is dead. Virginia dismantles Maryland big time.

Arizona is 4-1 look for them to be ranked later today.

Oregon you picked a bad time to play SoCal.

Missouri might be the best team in the country right now and Chase is clearly the Heisman leader.

Wow Hawaii beat Fresno State…wow.

Vanderbilt upends Auburn at home which worries the hell out of me.

South Carolina’s offense finally shows life and Garcia still isn’t a starter, maybe he should key another professor’s car to get a little attention.

While Bama might have won yesterday the fact that Kentucky has the #1 scoring defense in the nation is no fluke.

College Football Week 4 is in the books & here’s what I learned

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on September 21, 2008

So far this season is not like last season but so far so good nonetheless.

Tennessee sucks! Wait I already knew that…expect some more on this subject as the week progresses.

Georgia adds to the PAC 10 non conference woes by beating Arizona State with ease and Oregon did not help matters much by losing to Boise State. Basically everyone in the PAC 10 is playing for second place behind SoCal. Anyone see the awesome dive Moreno did to score the first TD? However he should have received a flag for celebration.

To see it live was awesome.

Missouri failed to impress against Buffalo.

Texas and Texas Tech. both flex some Big 12 muscle yesterday by trouncing their opponents.

And The Tide of Alabama continues to roll however credit 14 points of the 49 they scored to great defense.

South Florida fails to impress.

Not so fast Auburn fans and haters…they do have an offense after all but they lost nevertheless. Les “Big Hat Little Penis” Miles might be at least the 2nd best coach in the SEC. This was easily the best game of the week.

South Carolina gets by 1-AA Wofford…Spurrier can’t be happy right now.

Ohio State is the most over ranked in the top 25, Penn State is the team to beat in the Big Eleven Ten.

BYU is easily this years BCS buster…but let’s not forget about Utah.

East Carolina…fails…but Skip Holtz is still a hot commodity.

Florida State’s offense is simply lost and Wake Forest is the team to bear in the ACC.

Butch Davis better go back to the drawing board because North Carolina isn’t there yet.

Georgia Tech wrecked Miss State and Sly Croom.

Hell has frozen over because right now Vandy is sitting atop the SEC East.

Kansas let’s not forget about them.

Clemson got some frustration out by beating up on SC State.

Fresno State…is still ranked for a reason.

Hey Notre Dame still sucks imagine that.

Pittsburgh pick up your Big East flag & wave it proudly…just like last year Iowa sucks.

Look at Maryland 3-1 and might be ranked come later today.

Boston College could also be ranked as well.

Syracuse actually wins a game, of course it was against a 1-AA opponent but a win is a win.

Cincinnati is still looking like the team to beat in the Big East.

Miami will be scary good by the end of the year.

College Football Week 2 is in the books & here’s what I learned

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on September 7, 2008

First off everyone stop for a moment and point and laugh at the Big Least. The years of fooling the college football world with smoke and mirrors and weak scheduling are over.

WVU falls to East Carolina and it was never even close. Somewhere Rich Rodriguez is laughing because he never lost to East Carolina.

How hot is the name “Skip Holtz” right now? I’ve been to various teams message boards since yesterday and a lot teams whose coaches are in the hot seat want him. For example:…………………………………………………………………………………………………..

………………………………………………………………………..

  • South Carolina
  • Clemson
  • Tennessee
  • Syracuse
  • Arkansas
  • Louisville
  • Washington
  • Pittsburgh
  • Notre Dame

Speaking of Syracuse how is it pathetic to lose to Akron. Other Big Least fail boats are Uconn & Pittsburgh. Sure Uconn won yesterday but it took an overtime to beat Temple. Are you kidding me? And Pitt struggled with Buffalo.

The best team in the Big Least is Cincinnati. Sure they lost yesterday but it’s difficult to go to Oklahoma and win.

Oh yeah you can continue pointing and laughing at the ACC. Way to go Maryland.

Ohio State should drop in the polls due to their dismal performance against Ohio.

Miami will be scary good by the middle of this season. And what a rank amateur move it was on Urban Meyer’s part to kick that last field goal. He could have let Miami have the ball on the 10 yard line. That was disgraceful.

Something else that is disgraceful is the PAC 10 refs. What an idiotic call yesterday involving Washington and BYU.

Arkansas better step it up or they will not win a conference game all year.

Notre Dame Football still sucks. If San Diego St. didn’t make some stupid mistakes they would have won that game.

Under the raider teams

  • Nebraska
  • Mississippi (I always knew Coach 0 could recruit now they have a coach.)
  • Clemson they will bounce back
  • Air Force
  • F$U
  • Cal
  • Georgia Tech
  • Iowa
  • Purdue
  • Oklahoma State
  • Vandy
  • TCU
  • Kansas St.
  • Arizona
  • Indiana

Teams that impressed

  • East Carolina
  • Wisconsin
  • Georgia
  • Oregon
  • Kentucky
  • Cal
  • Miami in a loss that game was closer than what the score dictates
  • Texas
  • Oklahoma
  • Missouri
  • TCU

Teams that failed to impress

  • Ohio State
  • Michigan
  • Illinois
  • Auburn
  • Texas A&M
  • Arkansas
  • Alabama
  • Kansas
  • South Florida
  • Utah
  • Texas Tech.
  • Texas

Schools that might be looking a new coach next year

  • Arkansas
  • Syracuse (that guy is a goner)
  • Pitt (him to)
  • Texas A&M
  • Tennessee (I had to)
  • Michigan
  • Washington
  • Colorado
  • Notre Dame
  • Virginia
  • Maryland
  • Memphis
  • Louisville

Even the water girls of Ole Miss are hotties much like their cheerleaders.

The Miami cheerleaders are hot in a soft-core porn sort of way

Georgia’s cheerleaders are so-so

Resume Watch

Posted by Joel Jackson on September 5, 2008

I know it is early in the college football landscape, but after this weekend’s orgy of football watching, there were two coaches who stood above the pile of horrible coaching. One of these guys should have been gone last year, and the other one will be gone due to a difficult schedule & young players.

Dave Wannstedt: Some say he should have been gone last year, even with the win against West Virginia. Some say he should not have been hired at all, especially if you look at his “success” with the Chicago Bears & Miami Dolphins. He has shown that he can recruit but cannot coach. Not a good combination, especially in the cream puff heavy Big East. At the very least, with the facilities and boosters that Pitt has, the Panthers should be just behind West Virginia and South Florida. Alas, they are busy pillow fighting with UConn for mediocrity. I would hire him as a defensive coach/recruiting coordinator when he gets fired but nothing more. He should not have gotten this head coaching job in the first place.

Ty Willingham: This one hurts to write. I think Ty Willingham is a good coach who got the shaft at that blasphemous school in South Bend. But he has a young team that got throttled in the second half of Saturday’s game vs. Oregon. Now the Pac-10 is a good conference. Besides USC, you have those tree hugging hippies at Cal, Uncle Phil’s Nike money at Oregon, hot chicks at Arizona St. (to entice recruits), and an up and coming UCLA team. In other words, Willingham can’t be bad. He has a good young QB in Jake Locker, but from what I saw Saturday, they need receivers that can catch more than staph infections. The team is young, and looking at the schedule for the rest of the year, I see 10 losses easily. No way the alums in Seattle go for that.

There are others that I could have put on here like Greg Robinson of Syracuse or Chuck Long of San Diego St. but these were 2 games that I saw glaring needs of regime change.

Day One is Done Here are the Winners & Losers.

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on March 20, 2008

Xavier avoids being the fifth team in row to be upset by the Dawgs of Georgia. Rallying from being down 11 points the Musketeers win by 12. Georgia simply didn’t have the depth they needed. Look for this Xavier to go far into the tourney.Kansas thumps Portland State by 24. Gee…who didn’t see that coming?

Temple returns to the tourney only to disappoint Bill Cosby and the Jello Pudding Pop nation by losing to the Michael Moores Spartans of Michigan State.

UNLV wallops Kent State. Funny all I’ve heard for the past week was how Kent State was a mid major sleeper team.

Pitt continues its winning ways by whipping Oral Roberts by 19. Look for Pitt to go a little further in the tourney.

Purdue defeats Murder Inc. I mean Baylor and quite handily at that.

The Irish of Notre Dame defeated George Mason by 18. I doubt their football team could beat George Mason though.

Wisconsin shows why they belong by beating an up tempo Cal State Fullerton team is ease.

West Virginia defeated an Arizona team that by most accounts shouldn’t have been there.

UCLA who I’m picking to win it all embarrassed Mississippi Valley State. Like MVS had a prayer without Jerry Rice there.

Stanford beat up on the smartie pants of Cornell.

K-State defeats USC which shouldn’t surprise anyone. I’m still shocked that USC received such a high seed. Look for Beasley and company to advance next round as well.

Belmont must have Joel’s post about them because Duke was almost exited early by a nobody for the second straight year.

Washington State flexed some muscle and grounded the Eagles of Winthrop by 31.

Texas A&M defeated BYU in perhaps the least interesting game of the year. Zzzzzzzz

And lastly Kentucky’s failboat the USS One and Done has set sail thanks to Marquette. Boy I’m willing to bet some SEC coaches are regretting voting Billy G. for co-coach of the year. I’m sure Ashley Judd will give him a tongue lashing, hopefully he’ll be sober enough to remember it. Then again why was KY even in the tournament to begin with?

I wonder if Billy G. is going down with the ship?

RIP Myron Cope

Posted by Joel Jackson on February 27, 2008

Myron Cope, longtime voice of the Pittsburgh Steelers, passed away this morning. I am not a Steelers fan, but if you ever saw a Pittsburgh Steelers game from 1975 and on, you will see his lasting impact on the franchise, the Terrible Towel. The concept of the Terrible Towel has since been copied by other sports franchises over the years, and Cope was so quirky of a broadcaster that he made Steeler football games great to listen to.

When I made a trip to Pittsburgh a few years ago, I was at a sports bar during a Steelers-Ravens game and the TV’s were on mute. They were playing the radio broadcast and this bar had maybe 200 Steeler fans in it. It only took 5 minutes of listening to Cope’s voice and I was hooked. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette wrote a nice obit to him. Cope will be missed…

WVU Update 1/25/08

Posted by Joel Jackson on January 24, 2008

So in keeping with my new found obsession into mismanagement of a Division 1-A (I refuse to call it the Bowl Subdivision), the latest salvo is a tried and true method made famous by Arkansas fans: The Freedom of Information Act. According to documents obtained by the AP, a series of e-mails between Mike Brown, Rich Rodriguez’s agent, WVU President Mike Garrison and his chief of staff Craig Walker show that Rodriguez long sought more operational and marketing control with the football program. He also wanted things like free game passes for high school coaches, an all-access pass for his cougar wife Rita, and seats for football recruits at WVU basketball games. Now there are two things that stick out at first glance. One, these requests are not that unreasonable, hell, they should be expected. But this is WVU so keep that in mind. The school’s football program has never been a national power (as evidence by the spot in the trophy case that has dust 9 inches thick in the spot where the national championship trophies go). The other thing that sticks out is that embattled athletic director Ed Pastilong was not involved in any of these emails, meaning that Rodriguez was so frustrated with the man that he went to his boss. Not good…

Also, there were several charges of interference by Gov. Joe Manchin into the Mountaineer program. Let’s see: the governor has time to poke his nose into the school’s football program, all the while the state has the second worst economy in the country and the third most fragile. Instead of trying to create jobs, bring in new industry, and try to raise the state’s GDP, he has time in his busy schedule to devote to the Mountaineer football team. Of course, the governor denies all of this, but let us not forget that he was all over the hiring process, even interviewing coaching candidates, so he hasn’t exactly had a clean track record when it comes to all things Mountaineer…

The final straw for the hated coach came in a last ditch meeting on Dec. 15 between Team Rodriguez and Garrison. Those same demands that Rodriguez asked for (marketing control, etc) was brought up. Garrison told Rodriguez basically “go to hell”. Instead, a couple of days later, Rodriguez went to Michigan.

On the surface, it looks like Rodriguez left over a few items that the school was too cheap to give him. But it goes deeper than that. Rodriguez was working in an environment where he wanted changes to reflect the “just about” big time status that West Virginia was obtaining, but the school was still stuck in the mentality that a horseless carriage would take West Virginia football players to the sockhop two counties over. He was sick of West Virginia being…well West Virginia. He couldn’t take anymore, and when his agent put in a feeler to the Wolverines, both sides couldn’t get to the bargaining table fast enough. Looking back, I can remember that everyone else in the country knew that Rodriguez was meeting with Michigan and Ed Pastilong thought that he was on a recruiting trip. Why this guy is still employed is still beyond me. His mismanagement of the athletic department and his smart ass attitude (he told Rodriguez after the loss to Pitt that losing would cause embarrassment for him at the Big East conference meetings, even though the school won the conference and was going to another BCS bowl game) has cost the school more than a couple of good coaches. The band of merry men that run the school, and by extension the state, have the management style of seasoned Iraqi generals under Saddam. I will nickname Ed Pastilong “Chemical Ali”.

Still, Rodriguez should cut the check and go. The school needs the money. And I just got word that they need to upgrade the above ground swimming pool that both their athletes and their administrators use for recreation. This is their current one…
