Traveling defined the Duke Basketball way

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on February 24, 2009

For some reason a lot of people claim Duke gets preferred treatment from the officials at times. Like with this video above. Sure freshman guard Elliot Williams took a few extra steps…but 12? I’m not sure about that. I mean one can go six feet without actually dribbling the ball in less than 12 steps, right?

Some call it an “unfair advantage” and say things like this violates the “spirit of the game” but this is just basketball done the Blue Devil way. Ever watch a NBA game? You can go about 30 steps without getting called.

Besides, Tyler Hansbrough calls that “gritty”.

Honestly there’s no question he traveled however give the guy some credit, he’s bringing back the moonwalk.

18 free throws from 9 technical fouls all at once? WTF?

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on February 13, 2009

Imagine if you will that your high school team is down by 5 points with 12 seconds left in regulation. Then some bonehead for your team commits an intentional foul. That should be game over right? I would be in the normal world however this is Rio Americano High I’m referring to so apparently normal doesn’t apply here since they a way to get eight technical fouls called on their opponent.

Rio Americano High was playing a league game against Bella Vista, both school are located in California. Rio’s Pierce Burton attempted a lay-up however the shot was cleanly blocked and he lost the ball. At that point Burton decided to go all WWE on Bella Vista’s Justin Haley and tried to pull him down to the ground.

Burton received a technical foul and was ejected from the game. There were no blows thrown, nobody pushed another player and the player even shook hands said “Yo it’s all good.”

However if you watch the video you’ll see where players from both benches took about 5 steps away from the bench. Because of this the refs went into technical foul crazy and the grand total is astounding.

Bella Vista was awarded eight free throws. Two free throws for the actual plus 6 free throws because of the three technical fouls that called against Rio.

On the flip side Rio (the team that committed the intentional foul to begin with) received. 18 yes 18 free throws that were awarded from nine technical fouls! I find it hard to believe a team can even receive that many technicals and Rasheed Wallace wasn’t playing for them and I’m shocked to find out that Duke wasn’t the recipient of this gift. One player for Rio made 17 of those shot to bring his team from being down by five to win the game six points.

The refs are standing firm and state that players from both teams “stormed” the court after the intentional foul and apparently Bella Vista had a lot more players that left the bench area. Bella Vista coaches say that’s not the case and even if it was, that doesn’t mean you give out a technical for every single one which in all honesty makes sense to me.

Bella Vista is appealing the game’s final outcome. Whatever the case might be give some props to the Rio player that made 17 out of 18 free throws, because there are several NBA players who couldn’t do that.

Mark Cuban is somewhere angrily blogging about this.

College Football Week 2 is in the books & here’s what I learned

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on September 7, 2008

First off everyone stop for a moment and point and laugh at the Big Least. The years of fooling the college football world with smoke and mirrors and weak scheduling are over.

WVU falls to East Carolina and it was never even close. Somewhere Rich Rodriguez is laughing because he never lost to East Carolina.

How hot is the name “Skip Holtz” right now? I’ve been to various teams message boards since yesterday and a lot teams whose coaches are in the hot seat want him. For example:…………………………………………………………………………………………………..

………………………………………………………………………..

  • South Carolina
  • Clemson
  • Tennessee
  • Syracuse
  • Arkansas
  • Louisville
  • Washington
  • Pittsburgh
  • Notre Dame

Speaking of Syracuse how is it pathetic to lose to Akron. Other Big Least fail boats are Uconn & Pittsburgh. Sure Uconn won yesterday but it took an overtime to beat Temple. Are you kidding me? And Pitt struggled with Buffalo.

The best team in the Big Least is Cincinnati. Sure they lost yesterday but it’s difficult to go to Oklahoma and win.

Oh yeah you can continue pointing and laughing at the ACC. Way to go Maryland.

Ohio State should drop in the polls due to their dismal performance against Ohio.

Miami will be scary good by the middle of this season. And what a rank amateur move it was on Urban Meyer’s part to kick that last field goal. He could have let Miami have the ball on the 10 yard line. That was disgraceful.

Something else that is disgraceful is the PAC 10 refs. What an idiotic call yesterday involving Washington and BYU.

Arkansas better step it up or they will not win a conference game all year.

Notre Dame Football still sucks. If San Diego St. didn’t make some stupid mistakes they would have won that game.

Under the raider teams

  • Nebraska
  • Mississippi (I always knew Coach 0 could recruit now they have a coach.)
  • Clemson they will bounce back
  • Air Force
  • F$U
  • Cal
  • Georgia Tech
  • Iowa
  • Purdue
  • Oklahoma State
  • Vandy
  • TCU
  • Kansas St.
  • Arizona
  • Indiana

Teams that impressed

  • East Carolina
  • Wisconsin
  • Georgia
  • Oregon
  • Kentucky
  • Cal
  • Miami in a loss that game was closer than what the score dictates
  • Texas
  • Oklahoma
  • Missouri
  • TCU

Teams that failed to impress

  • Ohio State
  • Michigan
  • Illinois
  • Auburn
  • Texas A&M
  • Arkansas
  • Alabama
  • Kansas
  • South Florida
  • Utah
  • Texas Tech.
  • Texas

Schools that might be looking a new coach next year

  • Arkansas
  • Syracuse (that guy is a goner)
  • Pitt (him to)
  • Texas A&M
  • Tennessee (I had to)
  • Michigan
  • Washington
  • Colorado
  • Notre Dame
  • Virginia
  • Maryland
  • Memphis
  • Louisville

Even the water girls of Ole Miss are hotties much like their cheerleaders.

The Miami cheerleaders are hot in a soft-core porn sort of way

Georgia’s cheerleaders are so-so

Attorney for the Disgraced Ref say the Whole NBA is One Big Dirty Scam

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on May 21, 2008

John F. Lauro, the attorney for the gambling referee Tim Donaghy, stated in a letter that was filed in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn on Monday, that everyone in the NBA is dirty and he really hopes to land a job with Court TV.

The attorney also suggested that Donaghy told investigators about the gambling activities of other NBA officials and about a referee who passed “confidential” information to an unidentified coach. The confidential info is supposedly that Spud Webb was really 5’7 and not 5’6.

In a footnote, the attorney suggested that the NBA might have “pressured” the attorney’s office “into shutting down this prosecution to avoid the disclosure of information unrelated to Tim’s conduct.”

Wait, the National Basketball Association pressured the US Attorney’s Office??? Give me a break, what power does the NBA have legally? And what pressure could they assert? That’s just crazy.

“The letter filed today on Mr. Donaghy’s behalf contains an assortment of lies, unfounded allegations, and facts that have been previously acknowledged, such as the fact that certain NBA referees engaged in casino gambling in violation of NBA rules,” said Joel Litvin, the NBA president for league and basketball operations, in a statement. “The letter is the desperate act of a convicted felon who is hoping to avoid prison time.”

Of course Dirty Donaghy’s attorney had a response:

“The remarks by NBA president Joel Litvin were unfortunate and ill-advised,” Lauro said in a statement released Tuesday. “Rather than seeking to implement much-needed reforms, the NBA has chosen instead to attack the messenger. Following a thorough and exhaustive investigation, federal law enforcement officials have concluded that Tim provided honest and trustworthy assistance to them. If the NBA takes issue with any of Tim’s cooperation, then perhaps it should release the results of an internal investigation conducted by its counsel over the last year.”

Like most things, the truth is somewhere in the middle. Contrary to what Stern would have you believe, I’m sure there is more shady activities in the NBA beyond “one rogue official”. That said… and contrary to what Donaghy’s lawyer would have you believe… I highly doubt that Stern has any real power to pressure the feds. They certainly aren’t going to roll over just because Stern wants to avoid bad PR.

Donaghy is throwing everything against the wall, knowing that little or none of it will stick… but in the hope that he can save a little more of his behind from the treatment it will receive in prison.

Remember I still need “bail” money!!! Click here for details.

For The Thug Who Has Everything

Posted by Joel Jackson on January 29, 2008

dontdrop.jpg

Now this is a present. This game is basically a Monopoly, but instead of “Go To Jail”, you try to break out of jail and/or get parole. This is a description of the game from the official website:

Fight your way through 6 different exciting locations in hopes of being granted parole. Escape prison riots in The Yard, slip glass into a mob boss’ lasagna in the Cafeteria, steal painkillers from the nurse’s desk in the Infirmary, avoid being cornered by the Aryans in the Shower Room, fight off Latin Kings in Gang War, and try not to smoke your entire stash in The Hole.

The artistry of each handcrafted piece is matched with comparable humor & intelligence on every card. Stack your smokes, sharpen your shank, and get ready for an experience that only someone on the outside could appreciate.

Wow. What more can be said. Check out the game pieces. Who among us played Monopoly as a kid and thought “Wouldn’t it be cool if instead of a thimble I could use a Glock as my game piece???”

What’s the sports connection??? Well let’s see: The founder of the company and game is John Sebelius, son of Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. Kansas is where America’s “favorite” marijuana smuggling (and smoking), lawsuit avoiding, Valtrex popping, inaccurate throwing, dog killing QB Michael Vick is currently doing his time. But let’s think of the endless possibilities..

How about a “Playmakers” Edition featuring O.J., his white Bronco, memorabilia, copy of “If I Did It”, and a Naked Gun DVD for playing pieces???

Or a “Ballers” Edition, with Kobe attached to a blonde female hotel clerk, Roy Tarpley, transcripts of Tim Donaghy’s gambling probe, Jack Sikma’s perm, and WNBA TV Ratings???

Lastly, what about a “Juiced” version, with Jose Canseco, Barry Bonds, Marion Jones, a syringe, and a torn record book???

If they market this game right, it could be a gold mine. Of course, someone needs to mail some of these games to all SEC schools, so they can play as part of the “Super Secret Double Probation”…

The Revelations After a Saturdays Worth of Football Week 14

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on December 2, 2007

What a season it’s been. My greatest wish would be for not to end. This is the final edition of my revelations for the year 2007.

Hawaii remains unbeaten. Who cares.

The ACC championship game couldn’t even sell out. Sorry.

Missouri you and West Virginia should play each other in the “Biggest Overrated Jokes of College Football” bowl.

Rich Rodriguez you were crying at the press conference after the game. THERE’S NO CRYING IN FOOTBALL!! Unless it involves a death. You’re the shining example of what most everyone thinks of your conference: Weak & Pathetic.

Also while I’m still on West Virginia I noticed every time Pitt had the ball and was in the huddle the PA guy played Metallica, Guns & Roses & Manson. Jesus that’s sad, update your CD collection.

Goth chicks go to WVU games to hear Marilyn Manson

LSU didn’t really beat Tennessee, Erik Ainge did.

I’m beginning the hate that Dr. Pepper commercial of the fat football player.

USC still owns the PAC 10

The Big Least officiating makes the SEC officiating look good. Or West Virginia didn’t pay the refs enough.

Les Miles is a sound byte machine.

Kentucky basketball really, really sucks

How the crutches Wannstedt was on survived the night is beyond me.

Anyone else notice that the mics were a little to close on the Pitt bench? I clearly heard what Wannstedt said to the ref after the 2 fathom holding penalties.

Best image of the night is….

Like Joel said “Thank God of Pitt”

So I profess on this day 12/02/07

YMSWCC’S NBA (It’s Gambling Fan-Tastic) Season Preview

Posted by Joel Jackson on October 28, 2007

It’s me, Joel, for better or worse, posting about the NBA. Volunteer football depresses me and since Thomas is about to celebrate a Red Sox World Series ring, I’m posting about something that’s not long and drawn out, the NBA season!!! Yes that’s right, a league that is full of gamblers (refs), adulterers and snitches (Kobe), bloggers (Gilbert), best point guard who happens to not be American (Nash), Hasselhoff loving German (Dirk), guy who brags about not snitching (Carmelo), Frenchman married to an overexposed former Y&R actress (Parker), and owners who get more young ass than the toilets at The Clevelander on South Beach (Dr. Buss and Mickey Arison). The NBA, I LOVE this game!!!

This preview is fluid, to use the words of Herbal Essence spokesman Mel Kiper, Jr. What this means is that my “expert” (ok, I had to laugh at that one myself) analysis will change if/when Kobe Bryant is traded. I still believe that San Antonio will win the title this year, as hard as that was to type, but the path to them winning it all will change as the contenders will change. Can one player change the way I look at how the rest of the league will fare??? When that one player is Kobe Bryant, like him or not off the court, on the court he is amazing, and maybe the closest thing to #23 (whom I refer to as Jesus in a pair of Nikes) that we will see for a while…

Atlantic Division (in order of finish):
1. Boston
2. Toronto
3. New Jersey
4. New York
5. Philadelphia

I really like the move that former Celts Ainge and McHale engineered to bring Boston back to greatness. It was as smooth as the pick and roll game these two execs used to run when they were players. Garnett is a motor guy who has some help. Rajon Rondo needs to grow up quick at the point but Boston should have no problem winning the division.

Toronto will still make the playoffs but I am anxious to see how the young guys develop. New Jersey should be ok but they are not a title contender at this point. The Knicks have traded for a ball hogging post player to go along side another ball hogging post player to go along with a ball hogging 1 and 2 guard, with more ball hogs off the bench. I do like Renaldo Balkman and Wilson Chandler. Philly is a mess…

Central Division:
1. Chicago
2. Detroit
3. Cleveland
4. Milwaukee
5. Indiana

Chicago has all the pieces to make a run this year. If they can get Kobe without giving up the store, they could go to the Finals. What the hell has happened to Detroit??? They should be dominating the East in the regular season AND in the playoffs. LeBron still has no help in Cleveland. Imagine if he was in Chicago instead of Gordon or Deng??? Milwaukee should be interesting with Yi and his adjustment to the NBA. Hope he likes the taste of elbows while in the paint. Indiana has some good young players mixed in with Troy Murphy and Mike Dunleavy. Golden State got over on them…

Southeast Division:
1. Washington
2. Orlando
3. Miami
4. Charlotte
5. Atlanta

Washington needs a little more help off the bench, but Gilbert Arenas sure is fun (aka another players the damn Grizzlies could have drafted). Orlando should continue to make strides with Rashard Lewis. I would not be surprised if they won the division. Miami is getting older, shame with D-Wade still in his prime. Charlotte got a deal with Jason Richardson. He really emerged last year in the playoffs. They are probably 1 year away. Atlanta on the other hand is still several years away. Stop me if you haven’t heard that before.

Southwest Division:
1. San Antonio
2. Dallas
3. Houston
4. Memphis
5. New Orleans

This will be a very competitive division. Spurs will win, but any of these teams could be second. Dallas is #2 by default. I am anxious to see how Steve Francis will adjust to a new role. Yao will get posterized by the 15th game of the season. My Grizzlies still needs a low post rebounder. I am not sold on Darko. New Orleans could win big too. The Paul/West combo will be big.

Northwest Division:
1. Denver
2. Utah
3. Portland
4. Seattle
5. Minnesota

A.I and Melo together after a full pre-season should help out a lot as far as chemistry with the Nuggets. Utah will go as far as Williams will take them. Portland will be much improved, but losing Oden for the year will obviously hurt. The theme for Seattle this year should be “And a Child Shall Lead Them…to Oklahoma City”. Quick. Name me 5 players for Minnesota without looking it up on the web. Thought you couldn’t.

Pacific Division:
1. Phoenix
2. Golden State
3. Los Angeles
4. Los Angeles
5. Sacramento

Phoenix still needs a back up point guard and to use their bench more. This way they can be fresher for the playoff run. Golden State will be hurt a little without Jason Richardson, but Monta Ellis should make up for some loss of production. Keyword is SHOULD. Notice I didn’t separate the 2 LA teams. Doesn’t matter, they won’t do much this year anyway. Coaching will be a problem in Sac Town. I don’t know what kind of style Reggie Theus will run. He didn’t show us much when he was coaching in that NBC show “Hang Time”.

The one big question I have for this year, well 2 questions, is how will the league recover from gambling??? The words “one rogue official” has done nothing to satisfy me because of recent revelations that half of the league’s refs broke a gambling rule or 2. My next big question is how long until Madison Square Garden patrons begin the “Fire Isiah” chants??? Well they have started, but how long until people stop showing up and Spike Lee starts wearing a bag on his head???

Turbeville Saves his Job as Auburn Drain the Gators in the Swamp.

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on September 30, 2007

All the jorts, mullets, badly body painted fans and home cooking referees couldn’t prevent Auburn and the band of Bama bangs players from draining the swamp and defeating Florida on the road. Irony can be a bitch sometimes, on the very day that MSNBC ran a story that states Urban Meyer credits last seasons national championship to the loss to Auburn, the gators lose to them yet again.

“When Florida coach Urban Meyer walked into the locker room after losing at Auburn last season, the scene was surreal.

There were tears, tirades, fights and finger-pointing.

“It was wild,” Meyer recalled. “It was a tough deal. One of the coaches said we’ve got to get this thing under control and I said, ‘No, let it go.’ So we let it go for about 15 minutes. I wanted them to clear the air.

We cleared the air and we dried everybody’s eyes and we had a State of the Union on Monday – where we’re at, where we need to be, where we want to go and how are we going to get there.”

The Gators regrouped and responded better than anyone could have imagined. The defending national champions haven’t lost since.

The fourth-ranked Gators (4-0, 2-0) have won 11 straight since that upsetting – and unifying – 27-17 loss at Jordan-Hare Stadium last October.

Wait you had players crying? There’s no crying in football! Damn! Well, that 11 straight game win streak went down the toilet tonight. On the night that saw the legendary Wilbur Marshall be inducted into Florida’s “Ring Of Fame”, an 18 game home win streak was snapped thanks to great defense and leg of a true freshman kicker. Meyer let Marshall down, he’s such a dick head.

Yes Auburn fans feel free to steal use the pic.

“On a day filled with upsets, Auburn turned in one of the biggest.

Freshman Wes Byrum kicked a 43-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Tigers to a 20-17 victory over fourth-ranked Florida on Saturday night.

The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak for the defending national champions and gave the Gators their first home loss under coach Urban Meyer. They had won 18 in a row, 17 straight since Meyer took over in 2005.

It also might have jeopardized Florida’s chances of repeating. Then again, with all the other upsets Saturday, the Gators surely won’t slip too far out of the picture.”

Watch for stories in the media that might address the home cooking refs that officiated the game. Example: a Florida player cleanly caught a punt and was immediately tackled, a flag was thrown and the ref stated Auburn interfered with the catch. Needless to say Tommy Turbeville was lived, and had to be restrained by the defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, who for the record would make a good head coach at a school say….ummm….Tennessee. Turbeville also received a flag for his protest. Questionable calls have always plagued the SEC, but the in last 5 years they have been especially horrible.

“Auburn (3-2, 1-1) played sound defense, prevented Tim Tebow & Co. from making many big plays and took advantage of several mistakes to build a 14-0 lead at halftime.

The Tigers held on from there.

Byrum attempted the winning kick, just as Meyer called timeout. The kick was true, but Byrum had to do it again.

He did, and it was right down the middle.

Auburn used the final 4 minutes to set up the winning field goal. Ben Tate ran for 18 yards on the drive and Brandon Cox found Rodgeriqus Smith twice for 16 yards.

Byrum did the rest.

The Tigers rushed the field to celebrate and performed the “Gator Chomp” everywhere in front of 90,685 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.”

I wouldn’t count Florida out just yet, this season so far has been crazy. I would like to apologize to Auburn for the bad things I said about them when they lost to South Florida. I also stated that I would pull for Alabama in the Iron Bowl, that & the other things were said out of anger, besides I could never pull for Bama. Auburn might the best road team in the SEC for the past 5 years, Turbeville is 4 & 0 verses Florida, and 4 & 0 verses teams ranked in the top five. Alabama fans have had a good laugh at Auburn expense this season, but they aren’t laughing tonight. Bama lost to Florida State & there’s no excuse for that. So tonight it seems this is a duel victory for Auburn… and to the rest of the SEC click clack I think you hear Auburn coming.

So I profess on this day 9/30/07.

Spurrier Leads the Gamecock Nation Into Another Bitch Session.

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on September 28, 2007

Steve God Spurrier has never taken loses well, and he isn’t taking the lose to LSU well either. As always God Spurrier goes to the local liberal media icon WLTX, to whine about the lack of calls in the LSU game, however Les “Big Hat Small Penis” Miles isn’t hearing excuses.

“LSU coach Les Miles on Wednesday disputed coach Steve Spurrier’s contention there were “a couple of helmet-to-helmet” hits on a punt return against the University of South Carolina.

“It was helmet to back. It was a clip,” Miles said on the SEC coaches’ teleconference Wednesday. “The one that the flag was thrown on was a push in the back, and the second clip was a helmet-to-back, helmet-to-shoulder, but there was no helmet-to-helmet contact in my opinion.”

Spurrier was asked his reaction to Miles’ comments about the play in the second quarter in which at least three penalty flags were thrown against the Tigers.

“Oh, you guys need to go watch the tape,” Spurrier said.”

Oh wah wah God Spurrier, your team got beat plain and simple. Some Gamecock fan compiled a video of all the “missed” calls, and I admit there are some, but there are a lot flags being thrown, and I clearly remember seeing the refs mark off yards against LSU. Furthermore LSU was called for 3 more penalties than USC.

I know the music is horrible. Funny that this USC fan didn’t show all the calls the refs missed that would have been against USC. I hope God Spurrier can put this behind him and get ready for homecoming this weekend. I’d sure would hate to see Cockfest ruined. Yes I know that sounds like the title of gay porn but that is what USC is calling homecoming this year, and I even don’t have to think of anything smartass to say about that.

So I profess on this day 9/28/07.
