College Football Week 3 is in the books & here’s what I learned + an update on Joel!!

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on September 14, 2008

First off I have great news. Joel has more than survived his epic bout with Hurricane Ike. Joel suffered no damage however he does not power, but him and his family are safe & dry. He would like to thank all the people that were praying for him.

His next bout will be with the government over the fleecing of gas that has occurred with this hurricane. Did you know that oil prices actually dropped last Friday? Of course not because they spiked to a staggering amount. These refineries only produce 25% of this nation’s gas, and some of that is exported. Nevertheless gas should only go up by 25%, big government should step in but never will.

Ok I just had to get that off my chest. That will be one of few times you’ll see something political on this blog…unless I find some hot photos of Sarah Palin. Is so wrong to lust after a female running for vice president?

South Florida decided to show some Big East pride by beating Kansas. This was a great game. The Kansas QB is awesome. It would be foolish of teams in the NFL not to draft him. I don’t care how tall he is. Think how good Doug Flutie could have been. Trust me there are a lot of NFL teams kicking themselves for not drafting him because of his height.

The Kansas QB reminds me of Vince Young except not as tall, stronger, more accurate, and not suicidal and he isn’t whiner.

Hyped games like the Nuts verses the Contraceptives suck. The SoCal-Ohio State was b-o-r-i-n-g. Let’s face it. Right now SoCal is that good. I don’t care if Beanie Wells didn’t play. The score wouldn’t have changed that much.

Under hyped games rule!! Kansas-South Florida & Fresno State-Wisconsin were awesome games.

Georgia failed to impress. However some of you might remember back in August that I predicted that Garcia would make his debut in the Georgia game and I was right. Self ^5.

Oklahoma continues to impress as Ty Willingham might need to start packing his bags.

Missouri looks great!

LSU did what LSU was supposed to do and beat a nobody team convincingly.

Does Auburn have an offense or is the defense of Miss. State that good?

The Tide continues to roll and they will be rolling next week as they play the worst SEC team in Arkansas. And even though the Texas-Arkansas was postponed, Texas would have crushed them.

East Carolina pulls out a squeaker and the R-E-S-P-E-C-T factor is falling with them as it is with Georgia Tech as well.

People better watch out for Ole Miss and Nebraska.

Everyone point and laugh at the PAC 10 this week. Sure USC rolled and Oregon pulled out a miracle but Arizona State lost to UNLV, UCLA got ass raped by the Mormons of BYU, Cal lost to Maryland….that right there deserves a LOL.

The ACC isn’t fairing any better as well with Virginia losing to UCONN big. Remember UCONN struggled against Temple last week.

Cutcliff is winning at Duke though. Way to go Coach!

Oh La La almost pulled off another epic upset against Illinois yesterday.

Penn State looks impressive I mean very impressive.

Oklahoma State continues to roll and roll big.

OMG Kentucky is undefeated.

Utah continues to roll. How important will the Utah-BYU game this year?

The Notre Dame defense looks good then again it was against Michigan. However Charlie Weis is more man than Tom Brady by electing not to have surgery on his busted up leg. Get better Coach I hate to pick on gimps.

I have a post coming up about the Tennessee game.

Did anyone notice how Herbstreit finally admits Mark Sanchez will probably be a Heisman finalist after side stepping the question?

Finally has anyone noticed how eerily similar that USC QB Mark Sanchez resembles Richard Ramirez AKA the serial killer known as the Night Stalker? (Insert scary music here)

What Do You Do, Coach Stew???

Posted by Joel Jackson on March 14, 2008

Well what a banner day for West Virginia University. Freshman sensation Noel Devine, along with his 3 henchmen, were (finally) arrested for the Feb. 13 incident outside of Club Z. Apparently Devine took time out of his busy schedule of doing the Superman while at the club and started a little static. The 4 future brain surgeons have been charged with battery, and have pleaded no contest.

Now, this puts our new favorite undefeated coach Bill Stewart in an interesting conundrum. Earlier, he suspended 3 players for drug possession. A certain someone thought that Stewart would be up the creek when/if his star player was arrested. Well guess what has happened…

What does Stewart do??? Does he a) kick his star RB off the team and continue the precedent that he has set, b) tell the Mountaineer clan to wait until the legal process has been done (keeping in mind that he didn’t do that during the first incident, but could be spun as “I overreacted”) or, c) only suspend Devine and the Crew for spring practice, and still keep them fresh for the upcoming year???

Well if Stewart were an SEC coach, he would put Devine on “Double Super Secret Probation”, or take an approach similar to Thomas’ favorite coach, Steve Superior. There is also the ‘Bama approach where the charges “mysteriously” are dropped. How about police ride alongs, Fulmer style??? Whichever he decides will determine the course of the Mountaineer football season. None of this will matter much anyway, considering Jim Leavitt and the USF Bulls treat ‘Eers like their own personal chew toy. (Thanks Thomas. The one day this week I write and you beat me to the punch).

Oh, nothing major on the WVU v. Rodriguez case, but I did happen to stumble across this tasty morsel of news: The school is now getting sued, no less than by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the most trusted source of Mountaineer news. The school has not been entirely cooperative when it comes to the Freedom of Information Act (see Nutt, Houston). This goes back to the newspaper’s investigation into whether Gov. Manchin’s daughter actually earned her MBA, as the school’s records were “imcomplete”. Seems as though certain records, such as phone logs, e-mails, and other information has either been withheld or redacted from the newspaper. Now I am no lawyer (maybe LawVol can offer up some more details without going too much in boring detail speak), but I know enough about the FOIA that public records must be turned over in a timely manner, except those not required by law. Also keep in mind that school Mike Garrison is himself a lawyer by trade, and should be well-versed on such legalities. Maybe their legal department has been so busy trying to collect a check from Rodriguez that they didn’t think that they themselves could get sued. Isn’t it a great day to be a Mountaineer??? What is that I see??? I think those are the outstretched arms of the God of Mediocrityland, welcoming WVU back and sitting them next to Syracuse. How special…

South Florida’s “See No Evil, Hear No Evil” Philosophy

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on January 11, 2008

Face it folks South Florida is growing into a big time program. At one point they were ranked sixth in the country. They back to back wins over West Virginia. Now they have a potential cheating scandal involving Douche Bag Father of the year Ben Moffitt and alleged cheating, but instead of investigating claims that his wife did a substantial amount for school work for him, they’ve decided not to act unless one of those pesky professors questions his work. This move is a big time maneuver that was probably developed and employed first at Florida State.

“Professors in the courses would have to have some cause or suspicion that something inappropriate was happening and they could follow up on that,” USF spokesman Ken Gullette said.

Hmm…How about the fact his wife and sister in law both have confessed to doing his work. Remember his wife is a county employee so this confession could cause her to lose her job. But what there’s more… he Tampa Tribune obtained copies of nine papers that were written on his wife’s work computer and his sister in-law’s home computer – neither of which Ben Moffitt had ever used to do his USF assignments. So what now?

“There’s really no change at this point as far as the university is concerned. The information we have is information we’re getting from reporters,” Gullette said. “There’s not much to do at this point.”

Of course USF President Judy Genshaft refuses to answer questions knowing that this will affect the schools academic creditability. So instead just ignore the problem and hope it fixes itself. That’s another big time program maneuver, that has been developed and employed at South Carolina.

“There’s virtually no fool-proof way to protect against cheating,” Gullette said. “If there are over 100 students in a class, the instructors have no way of knowing if that’s the actual student. They may not know all the students by name and face.”

All my professors did. Of course they had little charts with each person’s picture and their name typed by it. They used them until they didn’t have to. Now I realize that might seem difficult for USF to do since it would hinder any plans of becoming another Florida State. I love this next paragraph; it clearly shows another big time program maneuver that is constantly used by every program period.

USF sports information director Chris Freet said Athletic Director Doug Woolard would not comment on the allegations that Moffitt cheated or that graduate assistant Patrick St. Louis was aware of it because it was a university issue, not an athletics issue.

That’s right. Even thought Moffitt plays for the university, it doesn’t involve the athletic department. That’s pathetic. After all Moffitt is there because of the athletics, but if he does something wrong, well, that’s not their problem.

As far as USF investigating the claims made by Moffitt’s wife, Cullaro said “it’s up to USF’s attorneys.”

Of course the NCAA might investigate and frankly USF doesn’t want that, but for some reason officials there are too stupid to realize that.

Ben Moffitt Wins Father of the Year From the American Douche Bag Association

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on January 4, 2008

Remember that annoying cuddly story of how Ben Moffitt a standout linebacker for USF’s football team, drives 55 miles daily to be with his family? Turns out that the marriage is falling apart and since November 11 he hasn’t been around much for his wife or kids. But it’s what she said that might be harmful to the entire USF program.

He is living a lie,” she said. “He’s lying to everyone. He’s not helping (us) with anything.” Their marriage of five years has deteriorated to the point that Shauna, 26, made public Thursday a larger allegation, saying that she had taken multiple online courses for her husband and written papers for his college classes to keep him eligible to play football.

“I have written every single paper he has ever written in five years at USF,” said Shauna, who works as a data specialist in the Sumter County Appraiser’s Office.

Can we say NCAA violations? If these turn out to be true USF could face major penalties. Of course USF officials had not responded to questions.

Moffitt has already retained divorce lawyer A.J. Rohe crushing any hopes of the public viewing this spectacle on the TV show “Divorce Court”.

“It’s our position that it’s harmful to the children when this personal stuff is aired in the papers,” said Rohe, who was retained by Moffitt on Thursday. “We’re disappointed that she would choose to do something in an attempt to damage his reputation and his potential for future earnings.”

If what she says is true any investigation that will be conducted by the NCAA should be breeze.

USF has marketed Moffitt, 23, as a family man, touting him for national awards with the phrase “Linebacker. Leader. Husband. Father.” Now he might be marked as “Linebacker. Loser. Divorcee. Bad Father.”

After their initial separation, Shauna said Ben visited their two children twice a week, but that stopped after a month. She said she does not know where he is living, and he has changed his cellphone, initially only calling from a blocked number before later giving her the number.

So much for happily ever after…

This I proclaim on 1/4/08.
