This would have been posted earlier but I kinda sorted screwed up and forgot to send Joel the bowl schedule. Yeah, my bad, I’m a dick. Whatever. Anywho let’s go over this year bowl schedule and mine and Joel’s picks and then you call your bookie.
This year there is a smorgasbord of crap-tastic games to choose from! Yay!
Non-BCS Bowls
EagleBank Bowl When: Dec. 20, 11 a.m., ESPN Where: Washington Who: Navy vs. Wake Forest
Joel says: Anchors aweigh. I really wish Navy would have beat Notre Dame again this year. Wait, this is a real bowl game???
Thomas says: I pick Navy because I’m sick and damn tired of hearing how the Wake Forest is so good. Blah blah blah. Is this bowl game being funded by any of the bailout money by the way? Read the rest of this entry »
Last Saturday things seemed normal. Another game against Vandy translates into another win for the VOLS.
“We’re still Tennessee,” said Phillip Fulmer after his next-to-last game as coach at his alma mater. We feel like most of the time we have better players and should win these games.”
I couldn’t agree more. All though there were still mistakes committed in this game by the team, they seem trivial when a win occurs, especially a win against a quality Vanderbilt team.
Even though people say this game is a rivalry game, I for one do not believe that. I mean the head to head record isn’t even close. Let’s go to the grades.
QUARTERBACKS: F
Gee…Crompton was intercepted again and Coleman was less than impressive as well, giving up a pick six. The fact that Gerald Jones & Eric Berry played well in the QB position keeps me from giving a “F-“.
RUNNING BACKS: C
Creer like the majority of the season looked good. He racked up 80 yards on 13 carries, however he fumbled once. Hardesty missed several blocks but had a nice run going over 20 yards. Foster almost looked like the old Foster minus the fumbles.
WIDE RECEIVERS: C-
Look its Stocker and guess what he dropped a pass. Rogers had a nice catch on a key third down. The receivers did an excellent good blocking for the running backs.
OFFENSIVE LINE: B
This might the highest grade they have earned all season. Even though Vandy knew we were going to run the ball, they simply couldn’t stop it. They played with consistency and only had one penalty.
DEFENSIVE LINE: A+
Seven sacks…nice. Ayers played like a man processed. Walker forced a fumble.
LINEBACKERS: A
Rico McCoy had 11 tackles and again proves how valuable he has been to this team. Nevin McKenzie was all over the field and Ellix Wilson was very productive.
SECONDARY: A
Eric Berry had a beautiful interception that he ran back 45 yards for a touchdown. Brett Vinson had an interception that he back 69 yards.
SPECIAL TEAMS: B-
Rogan had some nice kickoff returns. As usual Colquitt was above average punting. Lincoln Logs hit two field goals.
COACHING: C
Again the VOLS defense was dominate in this game however the offense was very one dimensional. I liked the call to have Colquitt attempt a 50 yard field goal on fourth down. At least it was something different. However the choice not to play Stephens was completely stupid.
OVERALL: B+
With this being arguably the worst team Tennessee has put on the field and not having a passing game of any type, Vandy still couldn’t beat them. It’s obvious that Tennessee used the past bye week wisely.
Strength coach Johnny Long shouted to fans as he left the field: “They’re still Vandy, and we’ll always be Tennessee.”
Now that Vandy is bowl eligible for the first time since the early 80’s and coupled with the fact that Tennessee lost to them in 2005, it’s clear that Phil Fulmer is purposely going to lose to them on purpose this coming Saturday.
Fulmer has named Crapton Crompton the starter for this coming Saturday’s match up against Vanderbilt. Crompton is just giddy with excitement.
“I’m enthused,” said Crompton, “I’m going to go out here and do the best I can. We’ve got to go out and win these last two games.”
You know who’s not enthused with this choice? ME! In fact I’m willing to bet that only he is enthused with this decision. Well, actually I take that back. I’m sure the Vandy is equally enthused with his slow reads and our porous offensive line.
Hey I have an idea, why not start B.J. “Huge hands” Coleman? Gerald Jones wouldn’t mind seeing that.
“I think he deserves a chance,” Jones said. “He did pretty good – really good – in the JV game. Why not? Give him a chance and see if he can lead this team from here on out. But I’m not the coach, so it’s not my call.”
“I don’t want to say what’s different, what’s good or what’s better, (but) the difference is Crompton’s a lot slower with his reads than Nick,” Jones said.
Tennessee is actually a 3 ½ point underdog for this Saturday’s game.
Let’s be honest. Yesterday offered a plethora of crappy games. On the bright side my beloved VOLS didn’t lose, of course they didn’t play but that’s not the point.
Clemson light Duke up. One more win and they’re bowl eligible.
Will Ron Zook be asked to step down after losing yet another game?
Look out Notre Dame is now bowl eligible even though Navy had a chance to win it in the end. Charles Weis really needs to look into doing some push-ups.
Georgia and the penalties they accrue almost cost them the game against Auburn.
Florida hammered South Carolina which is absolutely hilarious to me. Living in Columbia you should have heard all the things the Cock fans were saying. Deuce Staley actually said on his weekly radio talk show, “Carolina’s defense can match up with anyone’s speed in the country.” Really Deuce? You couldn’t tell from their performance yesterday.
I continuously laugh when I watch TV ads for other schools. And then a Florida ad comes on. “Go Gators. Go cure cancer.” Oh, that seems pretty simple. Tebow will take care of that in between circumcisions this off-season.
Does anyone really want to win the ACC?
Miami should be thanking Maryland for beating North Carolina.
Wisconsin discovered something called a forward pass and beat Minnesota with it.
Has anyone noticed that Nebraska is bowl eligible yet?
Missouri wins the Big 12 North…yes people that still exists.
Florida State couldn’t control penalties & Boston College’s running game at the same time.
It can be said: Vandy is bowl eligible. Kentucky might have been still mourning the humiliating loss the basketball received at the hands of VMI the night before.
Washington is still winless go figure.
Houston doesn’t have a problem as they rack up 70 points against Tulsa.
LSU almost embarrassed themselves and the SEC yesterday.
Michigan endures their first 8 loss season ever. I’m sure they’re glad they hired Rich Rodriguez now.
It sucks to be a Tennessee fan this season however I’ll still support them no matter what. As always a complete write up on the Tennessee/Alabama game will be tomorrow after I torture myself by watching a replay of the game.
There were other teams in action yesterday. Let’s look and see what we have learned from yesterday.
UCONN got back on the Big Least track by hammering Cincinnati.
Indiana upset the smarties of Northwestern.
Apparently Boston College doesn’t want too go to the ACC championship game.
Wisconsin finally won a game by beating the fighting Zookers of Illinois.
Here’s a piece of advice: never schedule Texas Tech as a homecoming game. Just ask the Kansas Jayhawks.
The fall of Wake Forest and the rise of Miami as begun.
Minnesota is 7-1 and for real.
The gaytors of Florida hammered Kentucky by blowing them out by 58 points. Hey did they steal your plays as well?
Oklahoma scored 55 points in the 1st half against Kansas State but only 3 in the 2nd half. Oklahoma still handily won the game.
Vandy is still not bowl eligible and Couch Cut picks up another win for Duke.
Florida State beat Virginia Tech, that and the fact Virginia beat Georgia Tech means Virginia of all ACC teams is on top of the Coastal division in the ACC.
Look out folks Louisville might be back, they upset South Florida yesterday.
The beast known as Georgia reared its head yesterday by hanging 52 points at LSU. As you can see from the photo LSU fans is thrilled at all. (Click on it)
Trends started at Rutgers…
1. College football (1866)
2. Giving the finger to hovering HD cameras at college football games (2008)
For the first time in 10 years Michigan State beat Michigan at Michigan. I’m sure things are getting hot for Rich “Dirty Sanchez” Rodriguez.
Texas barely wins against Oklahoma State. Folks this Oklahoma State is for real just America’s coach, Mike Gundy.
Pittsburgh was doing well but they regressed yesterday while Rutgers beat them.
Missouri took some frustration out on Colorado yesterday.
Texas A&M beat Iowa State. Check this video out. You have to love fans whose team is not performing well talking shit about the other teams. This video is hilarious!!!
JoePa gets his first win at the horseshoe since 1978 as Penn State beats Ohio State officially knocking them from playing in this year’s title game.
Washington is still winless and Notre Dame is 5-2. They could become ranked this week.
Houston Nutt took Ole Miss in to Arkansas handed them another loss. I’m he is savoring that one.
Ahh…another Saturday of college football has past us by. No real upsets to speak of however it was another great smorgasbord of games with some thrilling endings.
Don’t let the Tennessee score fool you. My complete wrap-up of that game will be tomorrow.
Everyone remember BYU? You know they’re the team with the unstoppable offense that was going to bust the BCS this year. Well TCU has something to say about that.
South Florida keeps in the mix of the Big Least by rolling over Syracuse.
Look out the smarty Northwestern team is now bowl eligible. They beat Purdue handily and this has to be Joe Tiller’s last season.
Maryland is like Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde of the ACC that or Wake Forest just wants to avoid a trip to Tampa and a chance to play in the ACC championship game.
Wow Rutgers actually won a game.
Georgia Tech upended Clemson. This was Dabo Swinney’s first game as interim head coach. I noticed that the AD was on the sidelines because he said something that obviously Swinney didn’t like.
If I was Swinney I would simply blame the AD at the post-game press conference.
“That play that got Korn injured, that was the AD’s call. The hook & ladder play it was the AD’s as well. I figured since he was on the sidelines interfering with my coaching he could call some of the plays”
Seriously folks the AD doesn’t belong on the sidelines. He should have been in the luxury suites entertaining the alumni.
Texas Tech manages to get the offense rolling and defeats Texas A&M.
Wisconsin once was ranked as high as #10 in the country, dropped their 3rd game in a row while taking a beating from Iowa.
Georgia sloppily beat Vandy. Vandy is looking to become bowl eligible.
Oklahoma State is 7-0 for the first time since the 1940’s.
Everyone though Michigan State had turned a corner…then they met Ohio State yesterday. It wasn’t pretty.
Oklahoma might the 4th in the country but they’re also 4th in their division.
I’m one of the few people that actually took Virginia to beat North Carolina.
Ole Miss. gave Alabama a huge scare. Alabama starts fast and fails to finish big.
Michigan looked awesome in the first half against Penn State. To bad the game has a second half.
Kentucky rallied 2 touchdowns in about the final minutes of the game to defeat Arkansas.
Don’t look now but Pittsburgh is now 5-1.
Hey did you know that Virginia Tech played Boston College last night? It was actually a decent game and Virginia Tech, like Wake Forest, doesn’t want too go to the ACC championship game either.
California gets ranked the second time in the season just to get beaten again.
South Carolina fails to win a third game in a row. (Snicker)
Finally. My beloved Red Sox are still alive thanks to this fat-ass. Of course TBS has an epic fail due to technically difficulties.
“Two circuit breakers in our Atlanta transmission operations tripped causing the master router and its backup – which are necessary to transmit any incoming feed outbound – to shut down. This impacted our live feed from being distributed to any of the other networks in the Turner portfolio and caused the delay in our coverage. Both our primary and backup routers were impacted by this problem. We apologize to baseball fans for this mishap that caused a delay in our coverage.”
Everyone wanting to watch the game in the U.S. had to wade through about 20 minutes of a rerun of the Steve Harvey Show, and missed BJ Upton’s solo home run in the bottom of the first inning.
I’m no expert on TV transmission system design, but wouldn’t you think that your backup system would be isolated from your main system such that a circuit breaker going down wouldn’t take them both off line? Isn’t that, you know, the point of a backup system?
Way to go TBS…& where is the apology to those that might be upset about missing the last 10 minutes of the show? They might have wanted to see more wacky shenanigans.
Chaos in the polls and I love it!!!! Yesterday was definitely the best slate of games this whole season and of course the best slate to surprising upsets.
Who is #1? It’s question that will be answered later today in the coaches poll and will be argued by everyone in the country.
I wonder who is feeling the heat more Tommy Bowden or Phillip Fulmer. Of course Tennessee lost because they suck no matter how hard I cheer for them. The full write up on the game verses Georgia will be tomorrow after I painstakingly watch a tape of the game later today.
Toledo’s record against Michigan improved to 1-0 yesterday which was a shocker.
I’m sure Arkansas is tanking Auburn for firing their offensive coordinator. You can the “inside” story of the firing right here.
All eyes were definitely on Texas yesterday as they upended Oklahoma.
“I’m 40! I’m a man! & I just beat Missouri bitches!” says Mike Gundy AKA America’s coach.
Tim “TiVo the Teabag” Tebow can go back to circumcising kids now since Florida hands LSU an ugly loss. Hell Tennessee didn’t allow Florida to score that many points.
Penn St. makes an argument on why they should be considered #1. as they gave Wisconsin a second straight loss at Camp Randall.
The Texas Tech offense isn’t putting up the points it used to but manages to defeat Nebraska and avoid being upset.
USC rolled against a dead Arizona State team.
BYU won. Who cares?
What’s wrong with Ohio State’s offense? Sure they won but they only scored 16 at home.
I was one of the few people in my pick’em to pick Miss. State over Vandy. Bobby Johnson you just got Croomed!
Kansas proves that they are still a factor in the Big 12.
Everyone point and laugh at Notre Dame. OK that’s enough. I seriously wonder how much Charlie Weis weighs.
It took the G-Spot Stephen “I keyed a professor’s car” Garcia to allow South Carolina a victory or KY. Hey Brooks maybe they stole your plays as well…asshole.
Look out Virginia is 3-3.
Not only does Lou Holtz have a lisp, slobbers when he talks but he also looks like he has had a chemical peel that never healed.
Georgia Tech you barely defeated Gardner-Webb seriously WTF?
Show some love to Minnesota as they handed the Illinois Fighting Zookers a surprising loss at Illinois.
Wow Iowa actually won a game.
Dumb ass comment of the day goes to Lou Holtz when he mentioned comparing Colt McCoy’s stats to that of Vince Young’s the year Vince Young won the Heisman. The problem is Young never won the Heisman…what a dumb ass.
Let’s be honest for the most part yesterday was an exciting & entertaining crappy day of college football.
As always I’ll have a full review of the Tennessee game tomorrow after I watch a tape of the game today. For the most part the death clock continues to toll for Philopotamus.
Pittsburgh is still alive in the Big Least and shot down South Florida which I was glad to see.
Duke was on a roll until they met another team from a “smart school” that was also a buzz saw name Georgia Tech.
Michigan State continues to quietly win while Iowa continues to quietly suck.
Has anyone noticed that Minnesota is 5-1?
Right now Penn State is the most underrated top 10 team in the country.
I asked this question on a message board this week it is worth asking again. Should Arkansas be considered a Div. 2-A school this season? I bet Atlanta doesn’t look so bad to Bobby P. now huh?
Kansas, remember them? Well they almost were victims of an upset yesterday.
Oklahoma didn’t have any trouble winning their first game as the #1 in the country.
Virginia Tech is suddenly the team to beat in the ACC.
Notre Dame is 4-1 and almost lost to Stanford. With their weak schedule why aren’t they in the top 5? (Sarcasm people catch the fever!)
The Fighting Zookers of Illinois reinserts themselves in to the Big 10.
Wisconsin is on the fail slide.
Texas Tech is 5-0 and it looks like their offense has awaked.
I hate F$U but they are 4-1 and their game with Miami was a classic.
UCONN is the latest Big East failure.
America’s coach Mike Gundy has Oklahoma State at 5-0. He’s a man he’s 40! By God.
Holy shit just when you think Maryland is coming back and Virginia is dead. Virginia dismantles Maryland big time.
Arizona is 4-1 look for them to be ranked later today.
Oregon you picked a bad time to play SoCal.
Missouri might be the best team in the country right now and Chase is clearly the Heisman leader.
Wow Hawaii beat Fresno State…wow.
Vanderbilt upends Auburn at home which worries the hell out of me.
South Carolina’s offense finally shows life and Garcia still isn’t a starter, maybe he should key another professor’s car to get a little attention.
While Bama might have won yesterday the fact that Kentucky has the #1 scoring defense in the nation is no fluke.
So far this season is not like last season but so far so good nonetheless.
Tennessee sucks! Wait I already knew that…expect some more on this subject as the week progresses.
Georgia adds to the PAC 10 non conference woes by beating Arizona State with ease and Oregon did not help matters much by losing to Boise State. Basically everyone in the PAC 10 is playing for second place behind SoCal. Anyone see the awesome dive Moreno did to score the first TD? However he should have received a flag for celebration.
To see it live was awesome.
Missouri failed to impress against Buffalo.
Texas and Texas Tech. both flex some Big 12 muscle yesterday by trouncing their opponents.
And The Tide of Alabama continues to roll however credit 14 points of the 49 they scored to great defense.
South Florida fails to impress.
Not so fast Auburn fans and haters…they do have an offense after all but they lost nevertheless. Les “Big Hat Little Penis” Miles might be at least the 2nd best coach in the SEC. This was easily the best game of the week.
South Carolina gets by 1-AA Wofford…Spurrier can’t be happy right now.
Ohio State is the most over ranked in the top 25, Penn State is the team to beat in the Big Eleven Ten.
BYU is easily this years BCS buster…but let’s not forget about Utah.
East Carolina…fails…but Skip Holtz is still a hot commodity.
Florida State’s offense is simply lost and Wake Forest is the team to bear in the ACC.
Butch Davis better go back to the drawing board because North Carolina isn’t there yet.
Georgia Tech wrecked Miss State and Sly Croom.
Hell has frozen over because right now Vandy is sitting atop the SEC East.
Kansas let’s not forget about them.
Clemson got some frustration out by beating up on SC State.
Fresno State…is still ranked for a reason.
Hey Notre Dame still sucks imagine that.
Pittsburgh pick up your Big East flag & wave it proudly…just like last year Iowa sucks.
Look at Maryland 3-1 and might be ranked come later today.
Boston College could also be ranked as well.
Syracuse actually wins a game, of course it was against a 1-AA opponent but a win is a win.
Cincinnati is still looking like the team to beat in the Big East.
First off everyone stop for a moment and point and laugh at the Big Least. The years of fooling the college football world with smoke and mirrors and weak scheduling are over.
WVU falls to East Carolina and it was never even close. Somewhere Rich Rodriguez is laughing because he never lost to East Carolina.
How hot is the name “Skip Holtz” right now? I’ve been to various teams message boards since yesterday and a lot teams whose coaches are in the hot seat want him. For example:…………………………………………………………………………………………………..
………………………………………………………………………..
South Carolina
Clemson
Tennessee
Syracuse
Arkansas
Louisville
Washington
Pittsburgh
Notre Dame
Speaking of Syracuse how is it pathetic to lose to Akron. Other Big Least fail boats are Uconn & Pittsburgh. Sure Uconn won yesterday but it took an overtime to beat Temple. Are you kidding me? And Pitt struggled with Buffalo.
The best team in the Big Least is Cincinnati. Sure they lost yesterday but it’s difficult to go to Oklahoma and win.
Oh yeah you can continue pointing and laughing at the ACC. Way to go Maryland.
Ohio State should drop in the polls due to their dismal performance against Ohio.
Miami will be scary good by the middle of this season. And what a rank amateur move it was on Urban Meyer’s part to kick that last field goal. He could have let Miami have the ball on the 10 yard line. That was disgraceful.
Something else that is disgraceful is the PAC 10 refs. What an idiotic call yesterday involving Washington and BYU.
Arkansas better step it up or they will not win a conference game all year.
Notre Dame Football still sucks. If San Diego St. didn’t make some stupid mistakes they would have won that game.
Under the raider teams
Nebraska
Mississippi (I always knew Coach 0 could recruit now they have a coach.)
Clemson they will bounce back
Air Force
F$U
Cal
Georgia Tech
Iowa
Purdue
Oklahoma State
Vandy
TCU
Kansas St.
Arizona
Indiana
Teams that impressed
East Carolina
Wisconsin
Georgia

TCU
Teams that failed to impress
Ohio State
Michigan

Texas A&M
Arkansas
Alabama
Kansas
South Florida

Texas A&M
Tennessee (I had to)
Michigan
Washington
Colorado
Notre Dame
Virginia
Maryland
Memphis

Even the water girls of Ole Miss are hotties much like their cheerleaders.
The Miami cheerleaders are hot in a soft-core porn sort of way
