Michigan Loses To 1-AA Appalachian State. Fans & Alumni Cry Out to Bo Schembechler For Revenge.

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on September 1, 2007

Shh…hear that sound? That’s the sound of Jim Tressel giving himself a hernia while laughing because, while the college football nation of fans was paying attention to America’s overrated team, Virginia Tech while they battled and should be embarrassed East Carolina, Lloyd Carr the coach of the Michigan Wolverines was debating on calling Mayflower or United Van Lines movers, because his #5 ranked team was losing to & eventually lost to 1-AA Appalachian State. Bo Schembechler is turning in his grave as Michigan Alumni hold vigilant sayonces. The Lloyd Carr deathwatch has officially begun. In the tradition of Appalachian mountains and it inhibitors (West Virginia students), hundreds of couches are now presently burning on the campus of Appalachian State.

“What was supposed to be a tuneup turned into a stunner: Appalachian State 34, No. 5 Michigan 32.

Julian Rauch’s 24-yard field goal with 26 seconds put Appalachian State ahead of Michigan and Corey Lynch’s blocked field goal in the final seconds sealed one of college football’s biggest upsets.

The two-time defending champions from college football’s former Division I-AA were ahead of the nation’s winningest program 28-14 late in the second quarter, then their storybook afternoon seemed to unravel late in the fourth quarter.”

Lloyd Carr had this to say:

“We were not a well-prepared football team, and I take full responsibility for that.

Appalachian State had tremendous speed at the skill positions, and they did a good job.”

“In our case, our schedule is about to get tougher. We’ll see how we respond.”

“I’ve never been a part of a loss that wasn’t miserable.”

  1. You are responsible. You lost to a 1-AA school!!
  2. You have more blue chip & five star players than App. State yet, you lost to a 1-AA school!!
  3. Who cares about the rest of schedule & responding! You lost to a 1-AA school!!
  4. This loss isn’t like losing to Ohio State. You lost to a 1-AA school!!

For what seems to be a minute by minute detailed blog on the game and more quotes from the loser to a 1-AA school Lloyd Carr click here. I need to hurry up and open up the bidding of http://www.firelloydcarr.com website. I also need to send some emergency Ouija boards and Fire Lloyd Carr t-shirts to the Big Blue faithful.

With this shocker occurring on the first official Saturday of the 2007 college season, one has to wonder if Houston Nutt, the Arkansas Razorbacks coach has contacted Michigan officials about the future job opening that will be happening.

As you might recall Houston Nutt contacted both NC State & Miami when their head coaches positions became available. Nutt also would have taken the Alabammer job if it was offered. With the disaster that is the Razorbacks, one can see why.

Surely this is Lloyd Carr’s final season at Michigan. If they don’t hire Nutt, who are some other candidates? Well there’s Jerry Moore the Appalachian State football coach of course, or Lou “Granny” Holtz, and let’s not forget Jim Harbaugh, but I’ll allow the spirit of Bo Schembechler to decide the next head coach of the Big Blue.

Yeah the Michigan Faithful are Pissed

So I profess on this day 9/1/07.

True Michigan fans had faith in their coach and their team. We went 8-4 (6-2) and finished second place in the Big Ten. Considering the injuries to Hart and Henne as well as how many young players were trying to get experience this year, we did quite well.

Ten times this year a Top 5 school has lost to an unranked opponent, and I would argue that App State could have beaten some (if not most) of those unranked schools. Anyone that would so quickly turn their back on the Wolverines is not a true fan. It is sad enough that the Big House can be made so quiet because of one bad play, but to call for Carr’s termination? He ranks third among Michigan coaches for career wins (121) behind Schembechler (194) and Yost (165).

Today, one of the most dignified and classy coaches in all of football (high school, college or pro) retired. He will continue to support Michigan football as an associate athletic director. It is sad that so many try portraying him in such a negative light. The Carr Wolverines went 121-40 (81-23) with a National Championship and 5 Big Ten Championships.

True — and I stress TRUE — Michigan fans will cheer through the great times and may cry through the horrible times, but one thing is constant — WE SUPPORT OUR WOLVERINES!!

This is the same App. State that was destroyed by NC State last year, and they had a better record last year than this year.

Well I can’t comment on that since I’m not a Michigan fan, but I agree with you about Carr being a class act.
